The short version
MarkDrop converts files entirely on your Mac. Your Markdown files and Word documents never leave your machine unless you explicitly choose to upload to Google Docs.
What MarkDrop does not collect
- No analytics or usage tracking
- No personal information
- No file contents or metadata
- No crash reports sent to us
- No cookies or browser tracking
- No advertising identifiers
Data stored on your device
MarkDrop stores a small amount of data locally on your Mac using UserDefaults:
- Conversion count — tracks how many free conversions you've used this month (resets monthly)
- Pro purchase status — whether you've purchased MarkDrop Pro
This data stays on your device and is never transmitted anywhere.
Google Docs upload (Pro feature)
If you use the Google Docs upload feature, MarkDrop connects to Google's API to upload your converted .docx file. This requires you to sign in with your Google account. MarkDrop does not store your Google credentials — authentication is handled by Google's OAuth flow. The only data sent to Google is the .docx file you choose to upload.
In-app purchases
MarkDrop Pro is sold as a one-time in-app purchase through Apple's App Store. Payment is handled entirely by Apple. MarkDrop never sees or stores your payment information.
Third-party services
- Apple App Store — handles purchase transactions and license verification
- Google APIs — used only when you choose to upload to Google Docs
No other third-party services are used.
Children's privacy
MarkDrop does not collect any data from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Since MarkDrop doesn't collect data, changes are unlikely.
